There was pomp and colour at the Bomas of Kenya as Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunynyi and his Tongarenian counterpart Dr. Eseli Simiyu launched a new party.

The event, which took place at the Bomas of Kenya on Tuesday 14th December, 2021, saw the National Delagates Conference (NDC) pick Mr. Wamunyinyi and Eseli as Party Leader and Secretary-General respectively.

While accepting his interim position, Wamunyinyi affirmed that the new party willl bring hope and cement the future of their supporters.

I’m delighted this afternoon, having been elected as Party Leader of Democratic Aalliance Party of Kenya. It’s a new dawn that will change the political landscape in the country. Thank you everyone who made this a success,” aid the ex-Ford Kenya member.

Delegates started arriving as early as Monday evening in preparations for the big day and come the material day, the Bomas auditorium was awash with song and dance, mostly to the Luhya tunes by Opeta Wa Musungu, among them, Khabusie.

Around afternoon, the guests arrived and short speeches followed before the newly-elects were unveiled.

Dr. Eseli, who was initially the Ford Kenya Secretary-General, said the new party seeks to unite not only the people of Western Kenya but the whole country, suggesting that DAP will be an affilite to Raila Odinaga’ ODM in the Azimio La Umoja coalition.

This comes barely a month after Dr. Eseli, Wamunyinyi and Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati opted out of the Senator Moses Weatang’ula-led Ford Kenya after a failed coup that the trio plotted on May 30th, 2020 at Radisson Hotel in Nairobi.

The three had more than half of the de

legates to eject Mr. Wetang’ula as the party’s Leader but through his court battles, Wetang’ula bursted the last  laugh.

This forced the rebels to launch DAP-K, which had already been in the pipeline for two years now.

The formation of DAP is likely to give Wetang’ula some sleepless nights just like did the New Ford Kenya and throwing Wetang’ula’s backyard supprt into suspense.

Other leaders elected as interims at the Bomas include Bernard Muchele (National Chairman), Night Mbingi (Treasurer) among others.

Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa and his Agriculture counterpart Peter Munya also graced the glamour. Former Woma Rep for Bungoma County Dr. Reginalda Wanyonyi and Joash Wamang’oli were also in attendance.

Former PM Raila Odinga was also expected to attend the event but reports have hownn that the presidential candidate was meeting Bukusu elders to bless the DAP.
