Thousands of football fans in Webuye West Constituency in Bungoma County had to wait for the penalty shoot-outs to know the winner between Compel FC and Mahanga FC.

The inaugural tournament, which is sponsored by US-based intensivist Dr. Phillip Mwangale, had a cash prize of Ksh250,000 for the winner and Ksh150,000 for the finalists. The third and fourth position bagged Kh75,000 and 50,000 respectively.

Compel FC overcame Mahanga FC 4-3 in the spot kicks after a barren draw to lift the trophy in front of a fully-packed Matulo Girls High School grounds.

The Mwangale Supercup was one of the most successful tournaments in the region with each of the 16 participating teams going home with at least Ksh10,000 and a full pack of uniform.

Speaking to WakajuanessLive.Com after the match, Dr. Mwangale expressed is happiness about the entire tournament, insisting that the next edition would be bigger and better.

“Being our very first tournament, I think this was a success and we have learnt a lot on matters concerning the youth. As leaders, we should lead from the front in nurturing young talents,” said Dr. Mwangale, who is also contesting for the Webuye West parliamentary seat currently held by Dan Wanyama.

The Boxing Day event was marked with flair and glamour with the winners storming in the streets to celebrate their victory.

Only teams affiliated to FKF were allowed to participate.
