The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) on Monday 24th January, 2022, received more defectors from other parties.

In a press briefing held at the party headquarters, Chui House in Nairobi, Party Leader Wafula Wamunyinyi announced that the newly-launched outfit had received three more leaders in a bid to strengthen the party.

Former National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende who was formerly in ODM, Matungu MP Peter Nabulindo and former Nyamira senator Hon. Mong’are Okong’o joined the party during the function.

“We are happy to receive defectors into the Democratic Action Party of Kenya at Chui House Nairobi. The defectors include Matungu MP Hon. Peter Oscar Nabulindo, former National Assembly Speaker Hon. Kenneth Marende and former Nyamira senator Hon. Mong’are Okong’o,” said the Kanduyi MP.

Nabulindo, who formerly vied on Ford Kenya ticket in 2017 coming second to the late Justus Murunga before winning the seat on ANC ticket, adds to a growing list of elected leaders who have joined DAP-K including Tongaren MP Dr. Eseli Simiyu.

Mr. Wamunyinyi also took the opportunity to dismiss ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi’s move to join Deputy President William Ruto as a “mere self-centred” move that has no blessings from the Luhyas.

“Well, Mulembe nation has observed that in every transitional election, Mudavadi places himself not as a serious candidate but as a SPOILER. 2002, 2013 and now 2022 are there for all to see. We cannot abandon a whole community to support a SPOILER to achieve his personal goal,” he added.

Bungoma Governor, who was also part of the Eseli-led coup plotters that unsuccessfully removed Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula as Ford Kenya party leader, is also understood to defend his seat on DAP-K under Raila Odinga’s Azimio La Umoja.

Other leaders who have shown interest in vying on DAP-K ticket include former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembea who is eyeing the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat as well as the Bungoma County Special Programs Director Caro Buyela who is seeking to replace former FKF boss Alfred Sambu as Webuye East MP.

DAP-K, which is associated with Defense CS Eugene Wamalwa, has been gaining popularity not only in Western Kenya but also across the country.

The party been tipped to become a party of choice across the Luhyaland, giving Ford Kenya a run for their money.
