Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati has lashed at Senator Moses Wetang’ula in the latest political rivalry between the two.

Speaking on Saturday 29th January, 2022 in Trans Nzoia County during the home coming ceremony of former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Mr. George Natembeya, Wangamati accused Wetang’ula of constantly demanding for kickbacks from every project in Bungoma and Trans Nzoia counties.

“Governor Patrick Khaemba of Trans Nzoia and I have been frustrated by Wetangula’s greedy appetite for kickbacks because we are the only two Governors elected on his Ford Kenya ticket,” said Wangamati.

“It’s time the people of Bungoma and Trans Nzoia rejected this bullish greed from the Senator.”

Wangamati, who replaced the current Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka in 2017, also hit at Wetang’ula for hawking the Bukusu community to the highest bidders as he pockets billions without caring for the community.

This comes barely a week after Wetang’ula and ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi ditched their One Kenya Alliance (OKA) for Deputy President William Ruto.

The duo’s move has been met with sharp criticism with Mudavadi losing most of his leaders to Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) which is supporting Raila Odinga’s Azimio La Umoja.

Since falling out with his then party leader, Governor Wangamati has vowed to teach Wetang’ula a lesson by defeating former Governor Kenneth Lusaka who is being fronted by the Senator.

On his party, Senator Wetang’ula has accused Wangamati of rampant corruption who has messed the County beyond repair.

“We thought we had elected a saviour only to realise that we voted for a hyena,” Wetang’ula was quoted at a past function.

Wangamati was among the leaders who staged an unsuccessful coup on May 31st, 2021 that had dismissed the former Sirisia legislator as Ford Kenya Party Leader, replacing him with Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi.

With the aid of Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Wangamati, Wamunyinyi and Tongaren MP Dr. Eseli Simiyu formed the DAP-K which has instantly become a force to reckon in Western Kenya.

So far, DAP-K has received hundreds of aspirants from Governors, Senators, Women Representatives, MPs and Members of County Assemblies.

Governor announced that he will seek re-election as Governor of Bungoma on DAP-K Party.

George Natembeya, who recently resigned from government assignments after serving for 26 years, also announced his bid to replace the outgoing Khaemba as the Trans Nzoia Governor on DAP-K ticket.

Mr. Natembeya has vowed to trounce Wetangula’s candidate Dr. Chris Wamalwa, saying he is the best option to bring change to the people of Trans Nzoia.

“I have come to share my experience that I’ve gained from government with my good people of Trans Nzoia. Those others are just seeking to plunge this County into a den of corruption and I’m here to stop that,” vowed Natembeya, who also served as the late Interior CS John Michuki’s PA for three years.

Natembeya’s homecoming was graced by several other high ranking leaders among them Eugene Wamalwa, his Agriculture counterpart and former Meru Governor Peter Munya, outgoing Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, DAP-K Party Leader Wafula Wamunyinyi, Chereng’anyi MP Joshua Kuttunyi, his Saboti counterpart Caleb Hamisi, Trans Nzoia Woman Rep Janet Nangabo who also decamped to DAP among others.
