The traffic of travelers moving away from the traditional hotel rooms in Western Kenya to “self-service” accommodation otherwise known as AirBnB has been on the rise for a number of reasons among them privacy, sanitation, security, as well as the fear of food poisoning.

In Western Kenya, this idea has been well impressed by local and foreign tourists seeking accommodation in the region. One of the units is a one-bedroomed modern house, clean and comfortable with recliner sofas, vintage coffee table, vintage work area for business meetings that can also double up as a dining table, smart connected TV, free secure parking, unlimited fast WiFi, Netflix and YouTube.

The kitchen is fully equipped with non-stick pots that can be cleaned without scrabbing, a cooker, fridge, microwave, kettle heater and a private balcony. The Bedroom is thoroughly cleaned and has inbuilt closets with hangers, delightful linens and toiletries. An Iron box is also provided.

The facility seemed to have attracted several darlings with a user identified as Charity hailing praises on the unit.

“Talk of “a small heaven”. Everything was amazing. From the combination of colors, cleanliness, location… The host was so welcoming. Anyone visiting Kakamega this place is a must stay,” posted the client in the reviews section.

The hospitality industry has become so dynamic that every day, there’s a new innovation meant to ease the lives of both the clients and service providers.

What is AirBnB?

An Airbnb is a residential property that hosts rent on a short-term basis to travelers. It can be anything from a house, a single room, a boat or even a tree house. Think of it as pop-up accommodation – a market place where people rent out their properties.

Airbnb does not own any of the properties. It simply provides a platform from which people can rent out their properties or spare rooms to guests. Prices are set by the property owners and monies are collected via the Airbnb app.

Airbnb was founded in August 2008 by Joe Gebbia, Brian Chesky, and Nathan Blecharczyk, with its headquarters in San Francisco, USA. The idea came to Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia in 2007 when they could not afford to pay the rent for their apartment.

They transformed their living room into a bedroom in order to ‘share’ their home with three guests and provided them with homemade breakfast. This was the beginning of the Airbnb concept.

On the one side Airbnb provides the opportunity for home owners to list their accommodation on the Airbnb app, which yields a rental income. On the other side it provides travelers with easy access to a wide range of accommodation options.

You can also book in advance and enjoy spacious parking, share your moment with your pet at your own pleasure.
