Former Communications Authority Director-General Eng. Dr. Francis Wangusi has announced that he will be on the ballot as the Bungoma gubernatorial candidate in the upcoming election.

Addressing the media from his Tuuti home in Kanduyi Constituency, Bungoma on Saturday 12th February, 2022, Engineer Wangusi said he is out to clear doubts that he may not be on the ballot due to his recent silence.

“I have called this presser to state that once I make a decision, I don’t back-peddle; I’m still in the race to fill the gaps left by the current crop of leaders,” said Dr. Wangusi while flanked with his supporters.

Dr. Wangusi also added that he in not in the race for supremacy battles being witnessed in the varying camps of his opponents but to change the lives of the voters of Bungoma County in a more serious way than seen before.

“I am vying not because others are vying but I want to use my experience and international connections to create opportunities for our young men and women to make a good living though the possible and achievable socio-economic avenues.

The Kakamega School alumni started his campaign on last year’s Christmas day by distributing food stuff to the needy families across the nine Sub-Counties in Bungoma County where over 1,000 families benefited from his charity gesture.

Wangusi, who is credited with Kenya’s award-winning digital migration programme, disclosed that he will be vying on Gideon Moi’s KANU ticket in bid to replace Governor Wycliffe Wangamati as well as locking out Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka from returning to the seat.

This comes barely days after the Senate boss also came outguns blazing, discrediting reports that he has been compromised by Raila Odinga’s Azimio team to abandon his gubernatorial bid.

Other leaders in the race include auctioneer Zackary Barasa, Dr. Khakina from Kibabii University as well as another Kibabii University staff Madam Sophy Nekoye.

Bungoma County currently has 640,000 registered voters and Wangusi will be seeking to garner majority of that basket while banking on his administrative skills at national and international level.
