Chwele-Kabuchai Ward MCA Barasa Mukhongo has thrown his weight behind Ford Kenya Party Leader Moses Wetang’ula and Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka.

Speaking in Kibichori village during the burial function of the late Nelson Mumelo Wanyembi who died a week ago in Nakuru, the veteran County Assembly legislator stated that he will always defend Mr. Wetang’ula and Lusaka even after the 2022 general election.

“Anyone who attacks Senator Wetang’ula or Speaker Kenneth Lusaka as well as Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga is attacking me and I will deal with them politically,” said the three-term MCA.

The Bungoma County Assembly Finance Committee Chair added that the people of Western Kenya should rally behind Senator Wetang’ula and his Vihiga counterpart Musalia Mudavadi of ANC to strengthen the unity of Luhyas.

“If we walk together as the people of Kibichori, Chwele, Kabuchai, Bungoma and Western Kenya under the leadership of Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula, we will have bigger bargaining powers on a national table.”

Mukhongo also took the opportunity to ask residents to emulate the Baemba clan, saying the populous outfit has always remained united despite challenges.

“As I console the Baemba clan who have lost the late Nelson Wanyembi, I also wish to notice how this clan has always stood strong for each other in merry and trying moments and this is how our Luhya people should live,” he added.

Mukhongo urged the residents to elect Mr. Lusaka as the new Governor of Bungoma County, saying he is a better option than the incumbent Wycliffe Wangamati.

“Since Wangamati came to power, all he has been doing was giving promise after promise. Let him go home and promise from there as we replace him with Lusaka.”

He accused the Wangamati regime of corruption, slow development and chest-thumbing.Mr. Lusaka is seeking to reclaim the seat he occupied from 2013 to 2017 before he was sent home by Wangamati.

The late Mumelo died at the age of 59, leaving behind one daughter and one grand daughter. Many speakers described him as a calm and caring person who loved peace.
