As the 2022 general election hoots around the corner, attention has been drawn towards female aspirants across the country.

A notable figure is the Webuye East Parliamentary aspirant, Caro Buyela, who has put up a big fight in the male-dorminated political terrain.

The former Bungoma County Director of Special Programmes has vowed to take her battle to the ballot despite what she referrers to as ‘dark forces’ against her dream in the Tachoni land.

Having been shortchanged for the DAP-K nomination slot in favour of a tired Dr. Wamalwa Iyaya, Buyela has gone ahead to secure the nomination certificate on Jubilee ticket which is supporting Raila Odinga’s Azimio coalition.

Buyela played an integral role in the Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati’s election in 2017, rallying behind the Tachoni Community behind Wangamati.

However, her efforts to market DAP in Webuye East have been frustrated with the party cartels who feel that Iyaya should fly the DAP flag in the area.

Competing against Ford Kenya’s Martin Pepela “Investor” and ODM’s Aggrey Namisi, Buyela’s name has been a thorn in the flesh of the two camps.

According to opinion polls done by various statisticians, Buyela is among the top two favourite candidates to replace former KFF President Alfred Sambu as the MP.

Her rise to fame has reportedly shaken the political topography in Webuye East, with many tipping her to emerge the winner in the 3-ward Constituency.

Buyela has promised to empower the youth, fair distribution of bursaries as well as the establishment of Ward Liaison officers to ensure the smooth running of Constituency programmes.

Since the promulgation of the 2010 constitution, Webuye East has not known any other MP apart from Alfred Sambu.

Sambu has not announced whether he is going to defend his seat despite his deteriorating health condition.
