The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cleared Roselinder Simiyu to vie for the Bungoma County Woman Representative seat.

The 57 year old unionist was given a go-ahead to unseat Ford Kenya’s Catherine Wambilianga in the August General election.

Speaking to the media after getting her clearance certificate from the IEBC, Ms Simiyu urged the electorates to embrace peace during the campaign period.

“I have officially been cleared to vie for the Woman Rep position in Bungoma County on ANC ticket under Kenya Kwanza Alliance. What I now urge is that we all embrace peace before and after this election,” she said.

Ms Roselinder, who also vied for the Webuye West parliamentary seat in 2017, decried the high level of poverty among the youth and women in Bungoma County, attributing the vice to poor leadership.

“Our women and young generation are struggling to put something on their tables. The people we elected have done nothing to empower them and this is the job I am coming to rectify.”

Ms Simiyu’s convoy later traversed the whole of Bungoma town, Webuye West and Webuye East, making stop overs to address her supporters before proceeding to her home in Webuye town.

Roselinder worked as the Chairperson of Kenya Union of Sugar Plantation Workers and was influential in fighting for the welfare of sugar workers.

Other aspirants vying for the seat include Nekesa Waswa (UDM), Beryl Mutekhele (Independent), former Woman Rep Dr. Reginalda Wanyonyi (Jubilee), Sween Khayanga among others.
