The office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) on Saturday 25th July, 2022 held a youth sensitization programme aimed at promoting peace ahead of the August election.

The event, which took place at The Tourist Hotel Bungoma, saw the ORPP engage nearly hundred youth representatives from various organisations in a cultivating workshop that left the participants proud of the theme.

With the message of peace dominating the day, speakers narrowed down to the importance of engaging the young generation in promote peace and tranquility across the country amoid the heated electioneering period.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission, through their regional coordinator Mr. Edwin Killong, acknowledged the role of bloggers, online content creators and influencers, can play in promoting peace ahead of the election.

“NCIC values the role the bloggers and content creators play in the society and we are committed to supporting them in promoting peace across the country,” said Mr Killong.

Bungoma South OCPD Mr. Benjamin Kimwele moved the audience with his biblical guidance, quoting 1st Timothy 4:12 to encourage the youth to find alternative sources of income than being used by politicians.

“1 Timothy 4:12 says that do not let anyone despise your youth. If you allow yourself to be used by politicians, you may not achieve anything whether they get elected or not,” said the hilarious Kimwele.

Mr. Kimwele also assured the participants that the Police are committed to providing security to all stakeholders in the coming election, affirming that it’s their role to do so.

Kimilili Sub County Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) Mbinya Wambua encouraged the youth to attend barazas, saying they will be communicating the dates.

The ACC also asked bloggers to report accurately, encouraging them to feel free at seeking clarification from the available channels on conflicting topics to avoid misleading the ardent masses.

Bungoma County Returning Officer Mr. Stanely Kipkosgei, assured Kenyans that the commission is committed to conducting free, fair, accurate and verifiable election, asking the youth to embrace peace.

“The Commission will continue holding meetings with all the stakeholders including media, candidates, voters, etc, in efforts to achieve a peaceful election and we are committed to that,” said Mr. Kepkosgei.
