Residents of Misikhu Village in Webuye West Constituency have asked Senator Moses Wetang’ula to back businessman Lendrix Waswa for the Bungoma Senatorial seat.
Speaking to WakajuanessLive.Com on Thursday, the lobby group stated that the agribusiness farmer and business tycoon is best placed to wear the Ford Kenya party leader’s shoes in the probable by election in Bungoma County.
“With Senator Moses Wetang’ula now assured of his post as the National Assembly Speaker following his overwhelming performance in the Kenya Kwanza election, we believe that Mr. Waswa can do a great job advocating for more resource allocation for our County,” said Mr. Josephat Wafula, a motorbike operator and group Chairman.
Mr. Wafula added that Waswa’s youthful appeal will be a great inspiration and advantage to Ford Kenya party which is trying to rejuvenate its national outlook.
Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula ditched Raila’s camp for the then Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance that has clinched the presidential seat in the Kenya’s General election.
According to media reports, Mr. Wetang’ula would be given the National Assembly Speaker post if he delivered Bungoma County to Ruto’s basket.
With Bungoma County having overwhelmingly voted for Mr. Ruto, Wetang’ula is poised to replace Justin Muturi as the National Assembly Speaker under Ruto’s government.
This will pave way for a by election now that Wetang’ula was re-elected as the Bungoma Senator for a third term in a row.If fronted, Mr. Waswa, who had signaled to vie for the Sirisia Constituency Parliamentary seat but stepped down, may become the second Governor for the country’s third largest County by mass.
Reached for comments, Mr. Waswa said he will listen to the voice of the people and represent them in the Senate.
“I have received a lot of calls and pressure from various groups across Bungoma County to have me on the ballot and I will heed their wishes and become their new Senator,” said Waswa, in a telephone interview with this writer.
