Former Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi has asked his supporters to accept the new changes at the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) following yesterday’s National Executive Council resolution.

Mr Wamunyinyi, who was the party’s first Part Leader and have held the position for fourteen months since its formation, stepped down to support the former Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa who has been the party’s Patron.

This follows a resolution by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC)/ Parliamentary Group meeting held Wednesday.

However, a section of Wamunyinyi’s supporters had questioned the move to have Wamalwa take over as the new Party Leader, leaving Wamunyinyi as his Deputy Party Leader.

But in an exclusive interview with this writer, Mr Wamunyinyi asked his supporters to remain calm, saying the new changes are healthy for the progress of the party and that everything was done in consultation and in agreement with every body.

“I want to assure my supporters that the new changes in our loved party of DAP-K are meant to spearhead the party to participate in the next presidential election and as a party, we have endorsed Hon. Eugene Wamalwa to run for the seat,” Wamunyinyi.

The giant politician added that he willingly stepped down to support Eugene as the new Party Leader to allow democratic growth in the party, which the party stands for.

Mr. Wamunyinyi added that the party is growing stronger, affirming that the party will play its opposition role to keep the President William Ruto-lead government.

“The party remains part of Azimio One Kenya political party as resolved by the formative NDC on 14/12/2021 and will work with all like minded parties in the said coalition in pursuit of a better multiparty environment in Kenya,” said Wamunyinyi.

The statement from the party read during the NDC lauded Wamunyinyi for fiercely defending the party and elevating it to national standards.

“Wamunyinyi has spearheaded DAP-K to become the 4th biggest party in Kenya with elected leaders across the country. A true Leopard doesn’t change its spots. A liberation hero and Defender of democracy whose leadership has enabled us to get this far. With his new role, he will add to the team that will reposition the Leopard party for posterity.,” DAP-K said.

Wamunyinyi, his Tongaren counterpart Eseli Simiyu and the former Bungoma Governor  Wycliffe Wangamati, were close allies of the current National Speaker Francis Masika in Ford Kenya until June 2020, when they staged a coup to oust him as the party leader.

Luanda Member of Parliament (MP) Dick Maungu has been named the party’s new Organising Secretary, and Wamunyinyi (Deputy Party Leader).

Bernard Masanja who has been the party’s 1st deputy party leader has taken over the post and functions of Deputy Secretary General while Eseli Simiyu has retained his position as the party’s Secretary General.

The vigorous Mumias East MP Peter Salasya will lead the youth wing in mobilising the youth to the party.
