Bungoma Superstars FC coach Francis Mukhebi hailed his resurgent Bungoma Superstars players following their win against Muhoroni Young.

Speaking to the media after their 1-0 win against the visitors at the Bungoma High School Stadium, Mukhebi, popularly known as ‘Sakata’, praised his team’s high spirits, saying the team is heading back to its glory days.

“The boys have shown that they can still play beautiful football and still get good results,” said the player-cum-coach.

With Muhoroni Young arriving at the field late, the kick off had to be delayed for another 45 minutes to allow the visitors to settle.

Daniel Juma could have put the hosts infront in the third minute but his head from youngster Bruce Fwaro’s cross from the left flank missed the target by inches.

Sakata’s boys kept pressed higher into Muhoroni’s backline and nearly harvested fruits when a software of touches involving new signings Fwaro, Mathew ‘Arocho’ Andera and captain Caleb ‘Titi’ Kiplagat saw the armband man shoot on target from close range for the lucky visiting gloves to hug the hit ball.

Fwaro, still stubborn and a thorn in the flesh of Muhoroni’s defense, surged fiercely from his left flank, messing up the backline only to be brought down for an open penalty but refree Andrew Okulu indicated a free kick.

Both teams walked back into the dressing room at half-time without a goal but Titi’s second half press in the box saw him brought down in the penalty box for an eventual penalty.

The captain slotted home in the 65th minute for his second goal in two consecutive matches.

With Muhoroni, who were initially keen on wasting time, now struggling for an equaliser, coach Sakata made a tactical change, bringing on Samwel Waswa Wekesa for Collins Wandera but Waswa only lasted for 9 minutes before getting injured.

Sakata, who attained his Caf D coaching certificate yesterday, has been in charge of Bungoma Superstars for three games now, winning two games and drawing one.

Bungoma Superstars have now gone four matches unbeaten, dating back to their 0-0 draw against G.D.C Nakuru, 1-0 win against St Joseph’s Nakuru, 1-1 away at Sunderland Keroche and today’s 1-0 win against Muhoroni Young.

The team now prepares for their trip to Transfoc FC in Kitale for their next fixture.
