Gor Mahia will play host to the second leg of the FKF Premier League Mashemeji Derby which is scheduled for this Sunday at Nyayo Stadium starting from 3 PM.

It will be a renewal of an old rivalry that started 55 years ago when a barely three months old Kogallo floored Ingwe 2-1 on 5th May 1968 at the City Stadium in Nairobi.

William Ouma, commonly known as Chege, was the hero of the day as he scored a brace for Kogallo with Henry Misango scoring a consolation goal for Leopards.

The Sunday’s fixture will be the 96th Mashemeji derby with Gor Mahia boasting of a superior head-to-head record.

Of the 96, Gor Mahia have won 33 games, with Leopards winning 28 and 35 have ended in a handshake.

Sammy Onyango and Dan Sserunkuma hold the record of the highest number of goals scored in the derby each having 6.

The lead goal scorer for AFC Leopards is Wilberforce Mulamba having netted 4 times in the derby.

Leopards come into the derby on the back foot having last won a game against Gor Mahia in 2016 courtesy of a Lamine Diallo goal. The last meeting between the sides ended in a barren draw.

Looking at the recent form, the home team come into the derby after a disappointing outing against Wazito FC that ended in a barren draw.

Kogallo will rue missed chances that gave Tusker an opportunity to cut their lead at the top of the table to just two points.

Kogallo are unbeaten in their last five games, winning three and drawing the rest. They are top of the league with 63 points having won 18 games, drawn 9 times, and lost only twice.

Leopards won their last game against Nzoia and have only lost once in the last 5 games. Their most recent loss game against Ulinzi Stars at Nyayo Stadium courtesy of a Boniface Muchiri goal.

Ingwe sits 9th on the log on 42 points having won 12 times, drawn 9 times, and lost 8 times. They were docked 3 points after their fans disrupted their fixture against Kakamega Homeboyz at Bukhungu Stadium.

The derby recently acquired a broadcast partner in Azam TV in a deal that totals around Kshs 8 million.

Each of the FKF Premier League teams will get Ksh. 300,000 from the deal while 2 million will settle the dues owed to the referees by the federation.

Azam TV will also beam live another fixture between title contenders Tusker FC and Kariobangi Sharks.
