Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has stated that Mt Kenya community can only reclaim the Presidency through former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Posting through his X account, the two-time legislator gave a possibility of the Kikuyu community backing Raila Odinga for the first time in history.

According to the ODM MP, should Kikuyus give maximum support to Mr. Odinga in 2027, then ‘Baba’ will be on the ballot for the sixth time.

“If Kikuyus support Baba wholeheartedly for the first time, Raila will be on the ballot,” wrote Amisi.

He also added that Kikuyus will then do anything possible to force Raila to State House, knowing that it would be their easiest way to reclaim the Presidency which they have enjoyed for a combined 34 years under Presidents Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta.

“They will force him towards the Statehouse win because it is the easiest route for them to bounce back to the Presidency. If they don’t, then Baba will opt to support President William Ruto because either way, Baba must leave his decade-long support base in government.”

Amisi, a close ally to the Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga, has constantly criticized the new government over the rising cost of living through increased taxation on basic commodities.

His sentiments join the conversation around Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Chairperson’s position that’s being funded by President William Ruto’s government.

A few days ago, Mr. Odinga and Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi, held a joint press conference that appeared to the be the government’s official launch of Raila’s campaign to Addis Ababa.

It also comes at a time when a section of Kikuyu electorates are feeling shortchanged by the current government after their overwhelming support for Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

The recent drama revolving around the relationship between President William Ruto and his Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, has left Kenyans talking, with many arguing that Ruto has literally fallen out with his Deputy.

Before the 2022 election, Kikuyus were meant to believe that Ruto would rule for ten years and receprocate the support to in 2032.

However, if the situation surrounding Rigathi Gachagua is anything to go by, then those hopes may end in tears, with Ruto skimming to replace Mt Kenya by inheriting Raila’s support base, rendering Kikuyus useless.

It could be this reason that the Saboti MP is suggesting that Raila remains the bigger hope for Kikuyus to retain the seat they have enjoyed for long.
