From a young age, Monica Anyango otherwise known by stage name as Monica Magoslo had a great interest in singing.
It was not a parent to her that this was a call from God until she recorded her first album dubbed Yesu Anaweza in 2018, barely three years after her form four.
Monica recounts giving her life to Christ a year after joining high school and the challenges she faced after making the choice to accept Christ.
“ It wasn’t easy. You know, I got born again while in form two. The journey afterwards was not smooth. I had declared a war with the devil and many at times temptations came. She said.
The second born in a family of four attributes her triumph over temptations to a life dedicated to prayer and consistent reading of the word of God.
“I can tell you for sure that it’s a war you cannot win alone. It calls for extensive and consistent reading of the word and praying without ceasing. I remember my first big task was to live without a number of my friends as a result of stigma. Making that choice was a personal decision after soul search and I have always lived to protect my salvation in the face of challenges. She said
Though at times she falls short of God’s glory, Magoslo said that just as David was, Christians should always pray to God and seek for righteousness.
She says that God’s grace has been in abundance. From almost quitting high school in form two to graduating from a college, Monica says that God has indeed been in charge of her life.
“I grew up with my maternal grandmother and with no good source of income, I had challenges in school especially with fees. A situation that got worse while I was in form two. I was at the verge of quitting, when a well-wisher moved in my aid. I later transferred to a private secondary school that performed dismally in national exams from a public day school which posted exemplary performance.”
Despite the school recording poor performance, Magoslo sacrificed her time and focused on her studies and would later get a slot in a public college – Ramogi Institute of Advanced Technology (RIAT) where she undertook a Diploma course in textile design.
The alumnus of Hopewell Academy had to juggle between her shop business, school and music career.
Lack of funds is her greatest undoing in accomplishing her calling but that has not stopped her from realizing her childhood dream.
Through her uncle Nelson Warambo , church members and close friends, Monica has been able to stay in the gospel industry that she describes as dynamic and quite demanding.
Currently working on her second album set to be launched this year, Magoslo says that she looks forward to collaborating with Evelyn Muthoka, Kaka Chinese, Milicent Joy, Janet Oudu or Eunice Ongoma someday, adding that these gospel artists have been her great source of inspiration.
Away from music, Monica is a business lady running a shop in Siaya town and a curtain designer. She also does house decorations.
