Seasonal politician and businessman Fredrick Oyugi Dor, commonly known as FOOD, has officially announced his candidacy for the position of Member of Parliament for Ugunja Constituency.

Dor, who is a committed member of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, made his declaration via a post on his official social media pages. He outlined his campaign focus around two key pillars aimed at improving the constituency.

Dor emphasized his dedication to enhancing the education sector in Ugunja. His plan includes ensuring that all students in day schools receive full funding through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) bursary program. Additionally, to support local agriculture and boost food production, Dor proposes distributing free hybrid seeds to farmers throughout the constituency.

The Ugunja MP seat is anticipated to become vacant following the recent nomination of the current MP, Hon. Opiyo Wandayi, to the Cabinet as the new Cabinet Secretary for Energy, a position previously held by David Chirchir who has now been moved to roads and transport awaiting approval from the vetting committee.

The nomination is part of President Ruto’s strategy to establish a broad-based government.

If Wandayi’s nomination receives a nod from the vetting Committee, Ugunja constituents will be called to participate in a by-election to select a new MP.

In the previous election held in 2022, Dor, representing the United Democratic Movement (UDM) party, ran unsuccessfully for the MP position. He secured the second position behind Wandayi, who was representing the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

In a yet another post on his X (formerly Twitter) page, the aspiring lawmaker has disclosed that he will not run for UDA chairman Siaya county as earlier planned but instead, he will focus on Ugunja MP race.

Mr. Dor in a phone interview with this publisher noted that he is doing everything possible to bring victory to the rulling party.
