The Hopkins Hospital Run and Walk charity event is set to take place on November 9th, 2024 in Bungoma town.
According to the official poster released by the hospital management, the event will involve a 5KM walk and a 10KM run in the streets of Bungoma town.
In an interview with Wakajuaness Live.Com, Hopkins Crescent Hospital C.E.O. Dr. Ombonye Omweri stated that the charity event seeks to create awareness on chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular conditions among other lifestyle-related conditions.
“We have thought of creating an awareness on chronic diseases and this half-marathon was the best way to spread the word,” said Dr. Ombonye.
Dr. Ombonye also revealed that proceeds from this event will go to buying medical kits for the needy patients ailing from such chronic diseases, treating them as well as supporting their needy kids to access education.
Hopkins Hospital, which is located along the dualcarriageway next to the the Shell filling station towards Kanduyi, had been providing medical services to the community.
In the three years the hospital has been in existence, charity activities through sports, have been the norm, highlighting the commitment by the facility to achieve a health community.
Early this year, the hospital organized a football tournament aimed at creating awareness on blood donation.
This marathon will be the first of its kind with the hospital expected to stage the second edition next year.
Dr. Ombonye has now called upon corporate organisations, institutions as well as well-wishers to partner with for the event, which is expected to attract 10,000 participants.
Participants can register by buying branded t-shirts at Ksh1,000 for adults and Sh500 for kids. Caps are available for Sh500.
