Siaya politician Wakili Stephen Odinga has voiced his support for the recent appointment of Cabinet Secretaries from Nyanza.
Speaking on a local radio station, Odinga emphasized that the inclusion of these leaders in the Cabinet will be instrumental in addressing long-standing stalled projects in the region.
“We have confidence in their ability to complete ongoing projects and initiate new ones,” Odinga remarked.
He cited the historical ties between Nyanza and the national government, from the days of the first Vice President Jaramogi Odinga and President Kenyatta to the current collaboration between Raila Odinga and President Ruto.
He acknowledged that previous political alliances have not always yielded significant results but noted that the current relationship between President Ruto and Raila Odinga offers new hope for Nyanza.
He expressed gratitude to President Ruto for his recent visit to the region, which saw the launch of several projects.
Mr. Odinga, for example, praised President Ruto for the launch of a solar power system on Mageta Island in Bondo constituency, highlighting its potential to enhance security and boost fish production through solar-powered cold storage.
He also commended Ruto for his support of Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission chairmanship.
Odinga who is currently the Managing Partner at Odinga Oboge Advocates is set to run for the Bondo constituency MP seat in the 2027 general elections.
The Advocate of the high court of Kenya has encouraged Nyanza residents to strengthen the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party. He dismissed concerns about ODM potentially being overshadowed by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), focusing instead on increasing party membership and influence.
His comments come in the wake of President Ruto’s appointments of Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi as the Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum and nominated MP John Mbadi as Cabinet Secretary for Treasury. The appointments have been widely welcomed in Nyanza, with many residents expressing their support for President Ruto in the upcoming elections.
