His height and stamina is nothing to joke with as it stands impressively tall, commanding attractive attention from any individual or congregation.
For an opponent to ever think of snatching a microphone away from him during a public address, you have to think twice as his courage and charisma will surely shy you off. It’s these physical characteristics that have earned him the title, Enjofu (The Elephant) by his supporters.
Politics has a funny way of branding political figures. Former PM Raila Odinga was branded ‘Tinga’, following his impressive performance as Roads Minister during the then President Mwai Kibaki’s tenure from 2002.
During this time, Odinga unleashed excavators (tinga) to rehabilitate roads, demolishing illegal structures that had hindered the expansion of roads, earning himself the name Tinga.
Mr. Wycliffe Wesley Wepukhulu, 38, is enjoying the Elephant tag, not only for his physical output but through his massive community engagement in helping his people.
A mere citizen who has tried his fortune in various business investments in Nairobi and the neighboring counties, the former Moi Primary School and Namachanja High School learner, has streamlined his passion in the education sector, single-handedly allocating over 200 bursaries to the bright-but-needy children across the 8 wards in Kanduyi Constituency.
This, he says, is to ensure that needy children do not stay at home while learning is in process for other children.
So far, his team has distributed bursaries to Wamalwa Kijana High School in Khalaba Ward, Samoya Secondary School in Musikoma Ward, Sio Secondary in Township, Kongoli Secondary in Bukembe East as well as Lutonyi in Sang’alo East.
During the just concluded Grade Six national exams, Wycliffe Wesley Wafula Wepukhulu initiated a very unique feeding program, buying lunch for candidates in remote areas. This, he says, was to enable needy children concentrate on their exams without the fear of sitting for the papers on empty intestines.
The internet was later flooded with the installation of free Starlink Wi-Fi, starting with the Tuuti-Marakaru ward. The free internet program targets all the 8 wards at strategic hotspots accessible to everyone. This is aimed at helping the youth access fast internet to monetize their creative content, with residents also marketing their farm products and other business hustles to the larger online community.
Though the Elephant has made it clear that he is eying the Kanduyi Legislative seat in the next election, his unique activities and approach to the ground has kept his competitors playing catch-up games.
Already, the giant has attracted a commanding following from the existing camps, signifying the steps he has taken to garner enough support for his 2027 ambition.
