Over 2,000 students are expected to enroll at Bumbe Technical Training Institute (TTI) next week, following a successful recruitment drive to boost technical education in Western Kenya.
During a sensitization meeting at Mateka Primary School in Bumula Constituency on Saturday, Bungoma County, Mr. Patrick Nabatwa, the Registrar of Bumbe TTI, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to providing educational opportunities that align with market needs.
“We have been moving across the region not only to market the institution but to reach out to students who are willing to join colleges but unsure about the courses they should undertake,” Nabatwa explained.
The institution offers guidance on marketable courses tailored to the Kenyan economy, ensuring students are job-ready upon graduation.
“At Bumbe TTI, we have our able professionals who can also guide the students on the kind of courses that are currently marketable,” Nabatwa added.
The event saw over 200 students from Mateka receiving their admission letters, set to commence their academic journey at the Busia-based institute on Monday.
Ms. Topister Obonyo, Dean of Students, highlighted the institution’s commitment to student welfare.
“We have hostels within the institution meant for female students while their male counterparts enjoy school facilities outside for health reasons.”
In addition to educational opportunities, the sensitization program emphasizes financial accessibility. Students can benefit from government funding up to KSh60,000 per year, significantly reducing the financial burden with only KSh7,000 needed annually from the students themselves.
To further ease the transition for new students, Deputy Dean Dr. Pascal Mutekhele announced transportation arrangements.
“We have already made arrangements for our buses to pick our new students at designated places to make it easier for everyone,” he assured.
This recruitment drive is part of the broader BBF (Babana Basome Frontier) initiative led by Dr. Joseph Kilwake, which has facilitated the enrollment of over 10,000 students from the region into various tertiary institutions in Kenya.
Bumbe TTI stands out as one of the best-equipped technical institutes in Western Kenya, dedicated to providing quality vocational training and skills development.
The institute’s proactive outreach and comprehensive support system are setting a benchmark for educational institutions in the region.
