Bungoma County Senator Wafula Wakoli has sent heartfelt condolences to Kanduyi Member of Parliament Hon. John Makali following the death of his elder brother, retired teacher Mwalimu Patrick Wafula Makali.
In a statement posted on his social media pages on Monday, Senator Wakoli described the late Patrick Makali as a dedicated educator and a gentleman whose contribution to the teaching profession touched many lives.
“My heartfelt condolences to my brother, Hon. John Makali, MP Kanduyi, on the painful loss of his elder brother, the late Retired Mwalimu Patrick Wafula Makali,” Senator Wakoli wrote.
“Mwalimu Patrick was a gentle soul, a dedicated teacher, and a guiding light to many. His passing leaves a deep void, but his kindness, service, and wisdom will live on in all whose lives he touched. May his peaceful soul rest in eternal glory.”
This is the second time in less than a year that Hon. John Makali has lost a brother. In early 2025, the Kanduyi MP mourned his elder brother Geoffrey Makhakha Makali, who died after a short illness. Geoffrey was laid to rest on February 8, 2025, at Mukhaweli Primary School grounds in a well-attended ceremony that brought together political leaders and members of the community who described him as a sociable and entrepreneurial figure.

Other brothers of the late include the veteran Citizen TV journalist and former Bungoma Senatorial candidate David Makali as well as the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Bungoma Branch Vice-Chair Peter Makali.
Burial arrangements for the late Mwalimu Patrick Wafula Makali are currently underway, with the family expected to release further details in the coming days.
Both Senator Wafula Wakoli and MP John Makali are first-term legislators elected on the Ford Kenya party ticket and have maintained a close political alliance in Bungoma County.
The people of Bungoma County continue to rally behind the Makali family during this difficult period of successive bereavements.
