In a club statement released ours after the barren draw in Mumboha Stadium in Luanda town, Vihiga County, Club Patron rebuked the evil move by the home fans that included hurling stones at the visiting technical bench.

“Bungoma Superstars Football Club, which trades its football in the FKF Division One Zone B League, is deeply disappointed at the barbaric, uncivilised, uncouth, uncultured and ‘unfootball’ behaviour displayed by the fans of Luanda Villa Football Club during our away match today at Mumboha Stadium,” read part of the statement.

According to the team’s presser published on the teams’s official Facebook page, the first incident was witnessed in the 42nd minute when a section of the home fans behind the visiting technical bench started hurling stones at our bench.

The ugly incident, as noted, was raised to Match Com Mr. Lazaros Yogo of phone number 0720865480 from Nakuru County.

“The second and ugliest incident came after the final whistle when one of our consulting team photographer, Mr. Duncan Kwoba, went to capture an action where a section of the home fans went to attack the centre referee Mr. Michael Otieno of phone number 0711184355 from Siaya County.”

The assaulted sports journalist Duncan Kwoba.

Bungoma Superstars, who pulled a surprise stunner against the then league leaders, stated that the hooligan attack was a way of silencing the truth against the the brutality nailed against match officials.

“As a result, the angry hooligans noted the presence of the cameraman and attacked him using a wooden rod, breaking his camera stand and demanding Kwoba to ‘zima iyo kitu’ to mean, ‘shut off that thing’.”

Kwoba, a well-known sports photo-journalist, had to be rescued by the security personnel that had been hired to man the environment around the stadium.

“We wish to condemn this bogus outplay by any section of football lovers not only in Luanda town but also across the country.”

The Bungoma-based team also insisted on the good working relationships between teams, adding that many teams enjoy such relationships because of the value of football, which should not be destroyed.

“Our good brothers at Luanda Villa should be reminded that we hosted their team at Bungoma High School during the first leg in a welcoming and professional manner without causing any trouble to any of their visiting team and it was a very admirable input of friendship and maturity in the game. Attacking our units because they were hosting us for the second leg is thoroughly shameful and undesirable.

“We wish to state that Bungoma Superstars Football Club has enjoyed good mutual friendship without taking football for enmity and few confused elements should not soil the repetition of this game.”

The visiting side also challenged the hosting side to treat visiting teams the same way they would wish to be treated when playing away.

“We don’t think Luanda Villa would love to be treated the same way their fans treated us, whether they are playing at Bungoma or away at any other team in the FKF Leagues,” they posted.

The match ended 0-0, with the visitors unlucky to drive away with three points after overlooking open chances.
