There was a magnitude of deep emotions in Webuye Sub-County in Bungoma County when Governor Wycliffe Wangamati launched his 5th corhot of the Scholarship Programme.

The event, which took place at the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology on Monday, 25th April, 2022, saw the tally for the Governor’s Scholarship Program hit the 10,000 beneficiaries mark after the initiative was launched five years ago.

This year, 7,000 have been picked for the coveted Scholarship, bringing to 10,650 in one of the country’s most heart-touching programs in the history of Kenyan education.

Speaking during the event, Governor Wangamati revealed that 62 candidates who were studying under full sponsorship of the Scholarship Programme had scored As and A- (minuses) from provisional tally on 281 results.

Ian Mwai Toyota, who was ranked 7th country wide, emerged the best candidate in Western Kenya in the KCSE results announced by Education CS George Magoha.

Other students who scored As in the exam include Tatyana Wabwire from Pangani Girls, John Kitiyo as well as Michael Korir.

Former Bungoma County Special Programmes Director and Webuye East Parliamentary aspirant Caro Buyela expressed her gratitude to the County boss for initiating the SP which has reduced the load on the otherwise needy parents who were unable to carter for Schoool fees.

“This program is not only inspirational but very emotional to teachers, parents and students themselves,” said Buyela as a section of the audience broke into tears.

“Such achievement can only be experienced if we elect visionary leaders like Governor Wycliffe Wangamati. ”

Governor Wangamati hopes to continue with the legacy if re-elcted for a second term, adding that the fruits of this program will be realised in the next five to ten years when Bungoma County will be the country’s factory of Doctors, Engineers, Architects, pilots and IT gurus.
