Four people have been confirmed dead while 13 others were injured in a stampede that occurred on Friday when people were struggling to enter the Kericho Green Stadium.

The four perished during the unfortunate incident before President William Ruto addressed the nation at the now renamed Wilson Chumo Kiprugut Stadium.

Kericho County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo has confirmed the incident.

“I would like to confirm that at around 3A.M. We lost four people; two women and two girls,” Kitiyo stated.

According to Commissioner Kitiyo, out of the 14 people injured, three were Police officers.

‘It’s unfortunate that such an incident can happen. I would like to send my condolences to the families that lost their loved ones and quick recovery to those injured.”

President Ruto has also joined Kenyans in mourning the departed ones, terming the reports as “unfortunate”.

Kenyans have come out to condemn the manner in which the Stadium was hurried, questioning the seriousness of the Kenyan government when it comes to the safety in stadiums.
