In the rolling hills of Bumula, Bungoma County, a young boy named Erick Wanjala Nyoti once walked miles to school with nothing but determination in his pockets.

Today, that same boy—now a seasoned public servant, the Chief Protocol Officer at the Country Government of Bungoma, and soon-to-be Master’s graduate, and PhD candidate—stands on the cusp of yet another milestone in a journey that has taken him from dusty village classrooms to the corridors of county and national power.

Nyoti’s educational odyssey began like that of many Kenyan village children. Between 1992 and 2001 he attended Bumula Primary School, where he sat and passed his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education. From there he proceeded to Teremi Boys High School (2002–2005), emerging with a solid Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education that opened doors to his first professional training.

In 2006 he enrolled at Bungoma Teachers College and by 2008 had earned his P1 Primary Teacher Certificate, ready to shape young minds the same way his own had been shaped. But teaching, though noble, was only the first chapter.

Between 2016 and 2018 Erick returned to academics at the University of Nairobi, obtaining a Diploma in Human Resource Management Diploma. Hunger for more knowledge drove him straight into a Bachelor of Arts in Project Planning and Management at the same university, graduating in 2022.

Not one to rest, in February 2023 he joined Kibabii University for a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management. And in a bold move that speaks volumes about his ambition, on 18th August 2025—just three months ago—he enrolled for a PhD in Human Resource Management at the same institution. The Master’s journey now reaches its triumphant conclusion tomorrow.

Beyond the formal degrees, Erick has deliberately equipped himself with specialised skills. In February–March 2024 saw him complete the prestigious Senior Management Course at the Kenya School of Government. He also holds a Certificate in ICT from Bungoma Teachers College, and two certificates from the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute: one in Office Etiquette and Customer Care, and another in Enhancing Personal Effectiveness for Efficient Service Delivery. Each certificate is a brick in the formidable professional wall he has built.

His work experience is where the story gets colourful. Erick cut his teeth as a primary school teacher, then served as a clerk at Bumula Health Centre—early lessons in service delivery at grassroots level. He later moved to Bungoma County Government as Office Administrator in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, mastering the machinery of devolved governance. A stint as Officer Assistant in the Office of the Speaker of the Senate followed, during which he was appointed member of the Senate Wellness Committee and rubbed shoulders with the country’s top leadership.

Today, Erick Wanjala Nyoti serves as Chief Protocol Officer in the Office of the Governor, Bungoma County Government—a position that places him at the very heart of county diplomacy, stakeholder engagement, and high-level government functions. From village classrooms to managing protocol for one of Kenya’s largest counties, his has been a remarkable ascent fuelled by discipline, continuous learning, and an unshakeable belief in public service.

Tomorrow, Friday 21st November 2025, Erick will walk across the stage at Kibabii University to receive his Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management. The entire community is invited to witness this proud moment and celebrate a son of the soil who has refused to let circumstance define his destiny.

The celebrations continue on Saturday 22nd November 2025, starting 8:00 a.m., at his village home in Bumula. Come one, come all—friends, family, mentors, colleagues, and well-wishers—to eat, dance, and rejoice with a man who has shown that with education and grit, even the most winding political terrain can lead to the highest academic peaks.

Erick Wanjala Nyoti’s story is still being written, but tomorrow and Saturday we get to celebrate a glorious new chapter. Karibuni sana Bumula!
