Legal expert Jimmy Waliaula has hailed Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati’s development record, saying the incumbent deserves applauds from all corners of the region.
Speaking in Bungoma town, Mr. Waliaula pointed out that the Governor’s Scholarship Programme, infrastructural development and efforts in the health department, will go down as Wangamati’s irreplaceable achievements.
“In a small period of less than five years, Governor Wangamati has done so much in education particularly the scholarship program that has so far helped over 5000 bright students from poor families afford learning in national schools and extra county schools,” said the veteran legal expert.
“In 20 years to come, Bungoma County will boast of doctors, engineers, lawyers and other professions a development that will eradicate poverty in our villages.” .

Waliaula singled out the 300-bed capacity maternity bed as one of the best relieves to the mothers within Bungoma County adding that the health sector has improved tremendously with new dispensaries coming up in 45 wards with over 30,000 residents enrolled on the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) according to the Universal Health Care(UHC) policy.
He added that the 6.5KM Dual Carriageway that’s 86% complete will ease the traffic congestion and better the image of Bungoma town for international investors.
The dual carriage project faced a lot of resistance from civil society groups that Governor Wangamati termed “anti development”.
Waliaula has also hailed Wangamati’s agricultural policy particularly the NAGRIP programme funded by the world bank that has been giving out grants to farmers that are organized into groups that have benefited hence improving lives of Bungoma residents.
Waliaula has now urged residents of Bungoma County to make the right choice to elect leaders that have ability to upgrade the lives of the voters.
“As Bungoma residents, let’s focus electing transformative leaders. With devolution in place, Bungoma County geared towards positive trends for our people particularly making sure money goes in the pockets of the common man”.
Governor Wangamati, is facing a fierce political battle with Senate Speaker, Kenneth Lusaka, on the ballot come August, 2022.
Wangamati defeated the then incumbent Lusaka with a margin of 20,000 votes and will be seeking to defend his seat on the Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) while Lusaka is understood to seek a come back on his ex nemesis Senator Moses Wetang’ula’s Ford Kenya ticket that’s supporting William Ruto whose campaign symbol is a Wheelbarrow.

Wangamati hosted Azimio presidential candidate Raila Amolo Odinga in Bungoma County in efforts to popularise the former Prime Minister’s bid, saying Raila is the best candidate to improve the socio-economic progress of Kenya.
