Bungoma County has today launched the distribution of 24 incubators and over 5,000 fertilized eggs to benefit farmers in Township and Tongaren wards.

Speaking during the exercise, area MCA Hon. Jeremiah Kuloba lauded the County Government, through the County Empowerment Fund, for this initiative, highlighting its importance to local farmers.

“I promised, and I have delivered. My desire is that we all make good use of these incubators, which will go a long way in enriching the entire community and creating employment” he stated.

Mr. Kuloba further added that in the near future, he will allocate more funds to sustain the project and expand it to reach more groups.

Each incubator has a capacity of 528 fertilized eggs, which are expected to hatch within two weeks. Farmers also received training on how to handle the incubators and regulate temperatures to ensure successful hatching.

This initiative is set to improve the livelihoods of Bungoma residents, as the hatched chicks can be raised and supplied to the Chwele slaughterhouse, enhancing the local poultry industry.

In the long run, this project is expected to create a sustainable source of income for farmers by reducing dependency on external poultry suppliers.

Additionally, it will promote food security, encourage agribusiness and empower youth and women groups by providing them with opportunities to generate revenue through poultry farming.

As production increases, Bungoma could potentially become a key supplier of poultry products in the region, strengthening the local economy and improving overall community well-being.
