Lions Grounds in Kakamega erupted in a spectacle of pomp and color as Former Kakamega Senator and UDA Secretary-General Cleophas Malala, unveiled the much-anticipated 5th edition of the Cleo Malala Super Cup.
The revitalized tournament, now spanning five counties in the Western region of Kenya, promises an extended reach and escalated prize money.
Initially confined to Kakamega County, the Cleo Malala Super Cup has expanded its horizons to include teams from Bungoma, Vihiga, Busia, and Trans Nzoia counties.
Malalah declared this year’s edition officially opened, saying the tournament will run for four weekends ending on 18th December, 2023.
“The Cleo Malalah Super Cup Football Tournament is back, covering the five houses of Mulembe Nation; Kakamega, Vihiga, Busia, Bungoma, and Trans Nzoia counties,” said Malala.

In addition to the geographical expansion, the tournament’s prize money has undergone a significant boost. Starting from 2023, victorious teams will now secure a substantial total of 3 million shillings, a marked increase from previous editions.
Traditionally held in December, the Cleo Malala Super Cup aims to nurture local talents from the Western region.
However, the revamped structure ensures that the runners-up receive 1.5 million, while the second runners-up and third runners-up pocket 1 million and 500,000 shillings, respectively.
The last edition in 2021 witnessed Munami FC clinching their first-ever Super Cup title, triumphing over seasoned Arsenal Lirhembe with a 1-0 victory in the finals. The championship prize of one million shillings was a fitting reward for their outstanding performance.
The Cleo Malala Super Cup, renowned for unearthing remarkable talents, has notably contributed to the football landscape, with Harambee Stars international Henry Meja emerging as one of the standout names discovered while playing for Arsenal Lirhembe.
As the 5th edition kicks off, anticipation is high for another showcase of regional talent and spirited competition, elevating the football scene in the Mulembe Nation.
