Bungoma Senator Wafula Wakoli has praised Governor Kenneth Makelo Lusaka’s decision to dissolve the entire County Executive, describing it as a long-overdue and courageous step toward restoring accountability and improving service delivery in the county.
In a statement posted on his social media platforms, Senator Wakoli commended the governor’s action, which came just a day after the Bungoma County Assembly received an impeachment motion targeting three senior County Government officials.
The trio include Mr. Edward Oringe Waswa from the Office of County Attorney, Ms. Carolyne Makali Khalayi from the Office of County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Finance and Economic Planning, and Mr. Wekesa Douglas Sasita from the Office of County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Energy, and Industrialisation.
“The decision by H.E. Governor Kenneth Makelo Lusaka to dissolve the County Executive is not just bold—it is long overdue,” Senator Wakoli wrote.
“For too long, the people of Bungoma County have watched service delivery stall while complacency took root. When I raised these concerns, they were dismissed as political witch-hunts. Today, the truth has come out clearly—and the buck stops with the Governor himself.”
Governor Lusaka announced the sweeping dissolution on Thursday, April 9, 2026, relieving all members of the County Executive Committee, the County Attorney, and the County Secretary of their duties with immediate effect. The move was exercised under Section 40(1)(a) of the County Governments Act and framed by the governor’s office as a reorganization aimed at enhancing governance and service delivery.
Senator Wakoli welcomed the development but urged that it mark only the beginning of deeper reforms.
“I commend this step, but it must be the beginning, not the end. Every shilling of public money must be accounted for, and anyone who misused resources must face the law,” he stated.
“Let this be a turning point—a new chapter defined by accountability, integrity, and real service to the people.”
The governor’s dramatic shake-up comes amid growing tensions in the county, with the County Assembly having formally received impeachment motions against key officials.
Political observers note that the dissolution appears to have preempted or responded directly to the looming impeachment proceedings.
As Bungoma residents await the reconstitution of a new county executive, attention now turns to whether the move will translate into tangible improvements in service delivery and whether any accountability processes will follow for alleged past mismanagement.
Senator Wakoli’s endorsement adds significant political weight to the governor’s decision, signaling a potential shift toward greater oversight and collaboration between the county’s legislative and executive arms, but how late is Lusaka’s action with the 2027 general election just a stone-throw-away at the corner?
