The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has summoned the former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati to appear before their office to write a statement about a raid that happened at his two homes on Tuesday morning.

Mr. Wangamati was summoned to to record the statement today morning following the surprise search whose entire intention is not yet revealed entirely.

This comes a day after the sleuths conducted a twin-search at both his Bungoma and Nairobi homes in search of crucial documents related to an unknown allegations.

In a daylight drama that lasted for almost eight hours, the raid, concurrently happening at his Ndengelwa home in Bungoma and in Nairobi, reportedly failed to trace the wanted documents and nab the former County Chief who served from 2017-2022 to any case.

Also targeted by the search, was a gun, some rounds of ammunition and a safe.

According to sources privy to the raid, the officers only found documents dating back from the days before Wangamati became the Governor in 2017, and therefore, unable to link him to the case they are following up.

The officers are also said to have found Mr. Wangamati with only Sh200,000 in his house, contrary to their expectations of finding millions of cash in the two houses.

It’s not clear what the EACC officers are looking for in the entire saga as the commission has not released any statement following the drama but political analysts have sensed foul play following Wangamati’s recent criticism of President William Ruto’s finance bill as well as his growing mileage as the favourite to make an easy gubernatotial comeback in 2027.

Mr. Wangamati has been highly tipped to replace Governor Kenneth Lusaka when his constitutional tenure comes to an end in 2027. With no other serious candidate emerging, Wangamati remains the big favourite to bag his seat back.
