Harambee Starlets U-18 coach Beldine Odemba named the provisional squad to grace the CECAFA U-18 tournament that will kick off later this month with secondary school players dominating the list.
Wiyeta, Kobala and Butere Girls High School contributed 17 players of the 44 supposed to report to camp from Thursday, June, 8th 2023.
Edgar Chakaya’s Wiyeta produced five players in Velma Auma(Goalkeeper), Lorine Ilavunga (Defender), Sharon Omwangale (Defender), Sheila Adongo (Midfielder), and Edna Wanda (Striker).
Elsewhere, Howard Shikanga’s Butere Girls which has been off the radar for a while also has five players in the provisional squad.
The five include goalkeeper Christine Omolo, defenders Vidah Okeyo, Judith Okumu and Dorcas Glenda, and midfielder Lorna Faith.
Kobala has the largest chunk of the three schools with seven players chosen from the school to report to the scheduled camp.
Goalkeeper Scoria Awuor, defenders Sharlot Atieno Obondi and Claire Meris, and midfielders Sheila Awuor Ouma , Eunice Atieno Odemba and Ephy Atieno Onyango managed to make the cut.
Others who made the squad from the Homabay based school are forwards Mollviine Achieng Owour and Margaret Aluoch Onyango.
Last year runners up in the KSSSA, Dagoretti Mixed has three players in the squad while other contributors include Madira Girls, Nasokol and Bishop Njenga.
The CECAFA U-18 Championship will kick off on June 24, 2023, in Nairobi.
