Riang’ombe SDA Primary School teacher Mr. Jackson Mobisa is set to be charged with attempted murder.

Mobisa went viral in March 2023 for canning a Grade Four pupil 107 times on the buttocks.

A recommendation had been made by the Investigating officers that the suspect be charged with assault but upon further review, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) preferred the attempted murder charges.

After realizing how severe the injuries were, he kept the boy locked in a dormitory and denied him medication in a move believed to cover the incident.

Marucha is reported to have flogged the pupil after he reported that his school uniforms had been stolen from a clothesline.

According to police reports, the boy was so injured that he could not sit down after the heinous act.

It took the efforts of the boy’s classmates to break the news to his uncle who had gone to visit the boy in school.

However, the school administration barred him from seeing the boy before it became apparent to him of the ordeal.

Kenyans on social media intensified calls across media networks to have the teacher arrested.

The school’s head teacher alongside four subordinates were arrested by DCI detectives flanked by police and ministry of education officials for questioning.

Though Isabella Kumenda – the school’s head teacher claimed to have been away from the school when the incident occurred, a query on why she took so long to report the matter was raised.

The  five teachers were detained at Manga Police Station while the suspect who went into hiding after the incident was arrested three days later.

The case will be mentioned on July 29 at the Keroka Law Courts in Nyamira County.
