Preparations are already in full swing as Bungoma is set to host this year’s national Madaraka Day celebrations in grand style.

A high-powered delegation led by Cabinet Secretary for Sports Ababu Namwamba and Permanent Administrative Secretary Anne Ngetich visited the county on Thursday and Friday to initiate the planning process.

During their visit, the team inspected crucial venues such as the Masinde Muliro Stadium and the Matulo Airstrip.

With support from the national government, these locations will undergo significant renovations, aiming to ensure the stadium can comfortably accommodate a 25,000-strong crowd for the June 1st festivities.

The infrastructural improvements don’t end there. Upgrades to roads leading to the stadium are on the agenda, and Bungoma town itself is poised for a beautification makeover, creating an inviting atmosphere for dignitaries and guests.

This comprehensive facelift promises to leave a lasting positive impact on the county.

Bungoma residents are bubbling with excitement, eagerly anticipating the national spotlight and the economic boost that the Madaraka Day celebrations will bring to the region.

The steering committee is diligently working to guarantee a smooth and memorable event, solidifying Bungoma’s position on the national map.

In an additional development, the Ministry of Sports and Creative Economy has pledged to collaborate with the Bungoma County Government to complete the Masinde Muliro Stadium.

Namwamba, during an inspection tour alongside Deputy Governor Janepher Mbatiany on Friday, affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the county in ensuring the stadium is ready before the Madaraka Day celebrations.

Namwamba’s assurance underscores the government’s dedication to providing a well-equipped venue for the national event while simultaneously enhancing sporting infrastructure in the region.

Masinde Muliro Stadium closed down in 2018 to pave way for renovation.

The stadium was then the homeground for the FKF Division One side Bungoma Superstars Football Club.

If completed, Premier League side Nzoia Sugar FC will most likely be using the stadium for their home matches to capitalise on the large numbers of fans from across the County due to its accessibility.

County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) Agnes Wachie (Sports), Ben Emachar (Public Administration), and Caro Makali (Trade), along with Chief Officers and other dignitaries, were present during the inspection visit.

This collaborative effort signifies the government’s commitment to not only ensuring a successful national celebration but also fostering long-term benefits for the community through improved sporting facilities.
