In a world that is embracing advancements in technology and aligning to the digital space, there’s a need to equip yourself and be up to date with the current trends in order to remain relevant.
In today’s exclusive interview, we talk to Gosovina Akinyi Jimborg, a Kenyan Vlogger who is currently studying in Canada just to hear from her what it takes to run a successful digital media.
Her journey in digital media began years after high school but it was until 2017 when together with her friend, started an online entertainment TV dubbed Gee&Lulu show.
After four years, she decided to start her own channel ‘Gosovina Jimborg’ which focused on beauty and travel, kingdom lifestyle and faith.
Gosovina, who holds a Diploma in Journalism from St. Paul’s University, says that finding a niche was not a problem because she knew what she wanted to venture into.
“Finding my niche in the content creation space was not that difficult for me because I knew I wanted to venture into Kingdom Lifestyle, Faith, Beauty and Travel. She said during a virtual interview with this publisher
Her inspiration to invest in Vlogs, she says, was as a result of her love for storytelling and the curiosity to always learn new ideas.
Currently undertaking Bachelor of Arts in communication and media studies at York University Ontario in Canada, Gosovina says it was after joining BlescoHouse School that she discovered her potential in fashion and acting.
She later joined Journalism, music and drama clubs which, according to her, shaped her understanding of fashion and media, promoting her to pursue a course in Journalism.
“Joining BlescoHouse marked a significant chapter in my journey because this is when I discovered my creative ability from dressing, acting, joining journalism club, music and drama and from. Henceforth, I knew I wanted to do media studies.” She said.
The fourth born in a family of six points procrastination as one of her greatest challenges in creating content.
Other common challenges she faces as a digital creator include; production of high-quality content, generating content consistently, prioritizing content expertise, understanding different buyer personas, producing content in suitable formats, creating buy-in among stakeholders, aligning content with the buyer journey, activating content effectively and Choosing the right channels.
Also, production equipment is a major challenge to her since they’re expensive.
The greatest motivation to her is both her father and mother, an ex military officer with the Kenya Defense Forces and a business lady respectively.
“My greatest motivation is my Dad and Mom. They have really shaped who I am in every way, they have taken me to school, they have allowed me to use their home for production for so many years, they have taught me to be disciplined, ambitious and made me believe I can be who I want to be. They are my biggest fans and greatest critics.” Jimborg explained
