Bungoma County witnessed a surge of excitement as the Talanta Hela recruitment initiative was officially launched at the Bungoma High School Grounds, attracting a throng of aspiring talents eager to be part of the men’s and women’s teams that will represent the County at the upcoming Kakamega event.

The launch of this significant sports event marked a pivotal moment for Bungoma’s sports scene, as the County aimed to handpick the most promising players to proudly don its colors on the national stage.

During the launch ceremony, Eng. Agnes Wachiye, the Bungoma County Chief Executive Committee Member for Gender, Sports, Youth and Culture, stated that the activity will see at least 50 players selected from the camp to represent the County at Kakamega.

“Our aim is to meticulously select the cream of the crop to form the County team that will journey to Kakamega for the prestigious Talanta Hela national tournament,” stated Eng. Wachiye.

“Sports are an integral part of our culture and identity, and the County Government, led by Governor Kenneth Lusaka, is fully dedicated to providing unwavering support to all sporting endeavors within the County to nurture and showcase local talent,” Eng. Wachiye’s resounding commitment echoed, setting the tone for the transformative impact of the initiative.

Mr. Denson Barasa, the Acting Chief Officer in charge of Youth, Sports, and Culture, urged the aspiring recruits to uphold discipline throughout the entire selection process.

Addressing the crowd, he firmly stressed, “We will not tolerate any disruptions caused by individuals who seek to compromise the integrity of this process. Let’s maintain focus and steer clear of any misconduct that might hinder our collective dreams.”

Mr. Barasa, who also serves as the Patron of the recently promoted KPL Women’s Premier League side, Bungoma Queens, lauded Eng. Wachiye’s unswerving commitment to revolutionize the sporting landscape in the county.

Mr. Barasa, a former teacher and DOS at St Mary’s Kibabii High School, acknowledged Bungoma County’s historical reputation as a veritable breeding ground for exceptional sports talent, reaffirming its potential to continue producing outstanding athletes.

The recruitment process’s details were outlined by Mr. Aaron Wafula, the Coach and Programme Organizer spearheading the selection process.

Mr. Wafula disclosed that players under the age of 19 would be eligible for consideration, emphasizing the County’s dedication to nurturing young talents.

Amidst an impressive turnout of over 100 participants, only a select 50 will secure coveted spots in the County’s representation — 25 for the men’s team and another 25 for the women’s team.

Anticipation gripped the grounds as the rigorous recruitment process, spanning three days, commenced. As aspirants battled it out on the field, the County eagerly awaited the revelation of the final lineup that would carry Bungoma’s proud legacy of sporting excellence into the national spotlight.
