Sixteen football teams have lined up to battle for the Salama Supercup in Bungoma in memory of the late business guru, Hamado.

The second edition of the memorial, which kicked off today Wednesday 29th December, 2021, will see the winner of the three-day tournament bag Ksh50,000, 20,000 more than the runners up. The first runner up will settle for Sh20,000.

The Salama Supercup tournament is sponsored by Salama Bakery Ltd which produces the Western Toast bread which will be celebrating 50 years in the baking industry since being established.

According to the Salama Bakery CEO Mr. Jamal Ahmed, the tournament is aimed at remembering his late brother Mohamed Ahmad who passed on two years ago and is part of his legacy to nurture local talent.

“We are holding this second edition to honour my elder brother Hamado who left us in December, 2018. My brother loved talent and this is the only way we can remember him,” said Jamal, popularly known as Muli.

“We are also using this tournament to encourage other established business entities in Western Kenya to give back to the community by supporting grassroot talents in all manner of fields.”

The first edition saw Posta FC lift the inaugural trophy and the charity tournament has since attracted various stakeholders including the media, fan and well wishers.

The late Hamado was the CEO of the family empire by the time of his demise.

By the time of going to press with this post, Team Salama was battling it out with Arsenal fans in the curtain raiser.

Team Salama is also expected to curtain-raise for the final against Manchester United fans.

Western Toast

The showdown will end on December 31st with FKF Div One A side Bungoma Superstars among the teams invited to grace the tournament.

Other teams include Posta FC, Bungoma Sirens a well as Bungoma Alters FC.

The tournament is being held at the Bungoma Airstrip grounds.
