A stubborn Nzoia Sugar FC ignored the ‘military’ threat from Ulinzi Stars by staging a fierce comeback to bag three points.

The scoreboard had remained idle throughout the first half until Ulinzi’s Boniface Muchiri’s 67th-minute goal edited the atmosphere around Lang’ata Barracks Stadium.

Mushiri’s goal must have insulted the visitors as Saalim Babu’s boys surged into Ulinzi’s half looking for an equaliser.

The surge paid off as the sugar millers won a penalty with eight minutes to go and Boniface Simiyu slotted it home for his sixth goal of the season.

Emmanuel Esekon headed in the winner in the 87th minute, breaking the hearts of the gallant soldiers who had not lost a match since the year started.

The win saw Nzoia return to the summit of the FKF Premier League table after losing the slot to KCB last week.

Nzoia are now 27 points at the top of the Kenyan Premier League table from thirteen matches, four ahead of second-placed Tusker who are tying with KCB.

The sugar millers’ evening was made even sweeter when their former teammate, Hillary Simiyu, failed to find the back of the net and with table neighbours KCB and Tusker also dropping points to Wazito FC and Police FC respectively.

Former AFC Leopards forward Elvis Rupia’s 27th minute hatrick for Police FC was enough to damage Tusker’s eveing at Kasarani.
